Choosing A Safe Space Heater
space heaters of the past caused quite a few house fires and other problems. They didn’t have the safety features that today’s space heaters have today. Learn what a safe space heater has so that you can get the comfort you are looking for without worrying about fires.
Find a space heater with overheating protection. This means that if the heater gets to a certain temperature the unit will automatically turn off. This prevents it from getting too hot and getting the carpet on fire or burning up itself. Although you shouldn’t, at times you may forget to turn it off and overheating protection will shut it off for you.
A safe space heater also has tip over protection. If the unit is tilted or bumped, it will shut off. This prevents the heater from falling over face down and burning the carpet and causing fires.
A thermostat can also help with safety and is a good feature to have to save money and have extra comfort. A heater turned on a lower setting will save more money and can be adjusted to make sure that it’s the temperature you want as opposed to just being on or off. If set on a lower heat, there is less chance for overheating issues to happen in the first place.
Typically, most space heaters have a few of these features, but try to find ones with all of them to have the most built in safety possible.
