How To Heat A Garage
Most people don’t have a heat source in their garage. For most of the year during the warmer months there is plenty of heat in the garage. As the weather turns cold, it becomes uncomfortable to work out in your garage or shop. Heating is required to stay warm.
How to Heat a Garage.
There are a wide variety of options for heating a garage. First of all there are installed units that go in along the walls and the ceiling as well as portable units that are designed to heat just certain areas of the garage.
You have to decide what your goal is. Do you want the entire garage or shop to feel warm? Do you need just one small part of the garage to have some heat?
If you need the entire garage to be warm, you will have to invest in a residential garage heater. If you use propane or natural gas, it will have to be properly vented. These will heat the entire garage up making all areas in it nice and warm.
If you need just part of the garage warmed, you can get small infrared or radiant heaters. These are a much cheaper option and normally can do a pretty good job keeping you warm. These will be less expensive to run but won’t warm the air around them. One part of the garage will be warm while others will still be cold.

There are some safety concerns about heating a garage to be aware of.
Stick with electric heaters if you are unsure how to properly vent other types of heaters.
Don’t stick anything in front of a heater that might catch fire.
Be careful about using a heater in the garage if there are lots of paint or gasoline fumes in the area. If you store your gas canister in the garage for your lawn mower, you may want to move this out and air out the area before using the heater.
