Patio Heat Lamps – Good Choice For Patio Heating?

There are a variety of options to warm up while on the patio. One of these options are Patio Heat Lamps. Instead of warming the air around the patio, a heat lamp will direct it’s heat towards the people and surfaces it’s pointed towards. If you live in a really windy place, directed heat like this with light will work better than other types of heating.

Most Patio Heat Lamps will be electric although you can find other fuel sources at times. You can get them in units that have their own stands or you can get the wall mount versions that will be completely out of the way.

If you get a patio heat lamp, here are some things to be aware of.

Stability.

For safety reasons and to protect your investment make sure the stand or base of the heater is secure. In the backyard and patio there can be high winds and storms that may knock the lamp over breaking it or the bulb inside.

Consider the cost of the bulb.

Sometimes cheaper heat lamps tend to have higher replacement bulb prices. These will eventually go out so don’t lock yourself into a bulb that will be overpriced and difficult to replace. If you can, fine a heat lamp that will take standard sized bulbs that will work the same as the original.

Protective glass

Whether you get the standing or wall mount versions, get the types with protective glass over the unit. Leaves and dirt can cause problems to the bulb if they come in contact with it. Moisture like humidity and dew will ruin the internal components. The glass will help protect against these problems.
