Propane Heating Safety Tips

Every year there are problems, injuries, and even death that is caused from propane heaters. Many of these unsafe conditions are actually caused by the user as opposed to faulty equipment. If you are using propane heating, be sure to be safe.

Follow the manufacturers operational guidelines.

Much of the time the standard operating guidelines for your heater are there for your and your manufacturers safety. Much of the time they will suggest using it in a manner that should be safe for all conditions. Don’t do anything outside of these guidelines.

Don’t use these types of heaters indoors unless proven they are safe.

Propane heating will put off carbon monoxide. The problem with this is that if you breath this, you can get sick and in some cases die. You can’t smell carbon monoxide so it’s difficult to notice until you are already sick.

Don’t use these types of heaters indoors. There are some propane heaters that have oxygen sensors to automatically shut off that are run by propane. These can be used indoors, but you should still do your research first to be absolutely sure about that specific model.

Be aware of failure.

As heaters are used sometimes the parts and connections exposed to heat over time will warp and bend. At times this could mean that your heater has some leaks and failure points due to this heat after hours and hours of use. If this happens, you could be leaking propane. Be sure to check your connections and even replace them.
